Linguistic Networks is a web-based system for the calculation and visualization of linguistic networks [?], that has been substantially enhanced in the eHumanities Desktop. These enhancements include three fundamental innovations: Linguistic Networks has been coupled with the user management system in eHuBase, so that now copyrighted material can be processed in Linguistic Networks. Second, Linguistic Networks can handle more complex and multi-level graphs within its networks than previously, since it now uses the graph database, Neo4J, as its datasource. Finally, Linguistic Networks has an enhanced user interface that permits users to include edited documents in lexical networks and then further modify them. For this purpose, Linguistic Networks uses significant parts of the statistical functionality of corpus linguistics similarly to (Evert, 2008). The stochastic analysis of networks occurs now outside of Linguistic Networks.

The Linguistic Networks project is part of the Priority Program Wechselwirkungen zwischen Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften of the German Federal Ministry of Education (BMBF). This research project develops an integrated theory of the laws of linguistic networking. It brings together natural sciences – on behalf of stochastic physics – and the humanities – on behalf of linguistics. The project develops instruments for the analysis and synthesis of networks which relate information processing with social networking and their linguistic means – beyond of what has been done so far in complex network theory.
